O mês da Biodiversidade: Guimarães
O mês de maio é o mês da Biodiversidade. Neste mês celebra-se o Dia Mundial das Aves Migratórias (14 de maio), o Dia Mundial da Abelha (20 de maio) e o Dia Internacional da Biodiversidade (22 de maio). Também decorre, de 21 a 29 de maio, a semana sobre espécies invasoras para aumentar a sensibilização sobre as invasões biológicas em prol da Conservação da Biodiversidade nativa de cada região e a Restauração dos Ecossistemas. No Laboratório da Paisagem, associamo-nos a todas estas iniciativas projetando, para o mês de maio, um conjunto ações, com as escolas e público em geral, contribuindo para assim para o Objetivo de Desenvolvimento Sustentável 15 – Proteger a vida terrestre.
The Landscape Laboratory will promote many activities with the community, during the month of May. The activities aim to raise people’s awareness of the importance of biodiversity and the role of each one of us in its protection.

The International Year of Caves and Karst is being celebrated in 2021 on the initiative of the International Union of Speleology (UIS), with the support of numerous national and international organisations. The Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU and the Portuguese Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (INCF) will be hosting a joint virtual event on Tuesday, 25 May, from 09:00 – 13:00 CET, to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity (on 22 May) in the context of the relevant information that caves contain for the future of humankind. A unique opportunity, an unprecedented initiative to enhance the value of caves and the importance of their conservation, projecting them on a timeless universal scale. |

The Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU and the IUCN European Regional Office kindly invite you to join our virtual event, Restoring Europe’s forests for people and the planet, on 20 May from 9:30 – 11:00am CET to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity (on 22 May) in the context of the future of forests in Europe. The restoration of these ecosystems will be a fundamental tool in tackling the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change, while at the same time the EU Forest Strategy must ensure coherence of forest-related policies and allow synergies with the forest-based sector.
Three forest restoration case studies are also invited to showcase their work:
