First Meeting of the Interagency Liaison Group on Biodiversity & Health
The Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, at its twelfth and thirteenth meetings have called for strengthened collaboration between the CBD Secretariat, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other organizations, to pursue collaborative activities under the joint work programme with the World Health Organization, established pursuant to Decision XIII/6
, to support the contribution that the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011–2020 can make to achieving human health objectives. The Interagency Liaison Group on Biodiversity and Human Health will play an important support role in achieving the objectives outlined in these decisions, and other global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals
, 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and related international commitments.
In this light, WHO and UN Biodiversity Convention Secretariat convened the first meeting of the Interagency Liaison Group at WHO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on 4-5 May 2017.
The outcomes and report of the first meeting of the Group will be submitted to the twenty-first meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 21) to be held in December 2017 in Montreal, Canada.
