 Celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2016 in Yerevan, 22 May 2016

On 22 May, the Ministry of Nature Protection in RA and WWF Armenia organized an event within the frames of the International Day for Biological Diversity held in the State Museum of Nature. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held with participation of the Minister of Nature Protection in Armenia, Director of WWF Armenia and many other environmentalists. Representatives from state and international organizations, NGOs, corporate sector and mass media also participated in the event. The event started with welcoming speeches of the organizers followed by screening of a film “Conscious Caucasus” about Armenian nature, wildlife and ecotourism possibilities. All the guests had chance to see a unique collection of pictures printed on wood and canvas presenting Armenian flora and fauna, called “Biodiversity of Armenia”. As the entrance to museum was free, the general public also joined. Throughout the day many visitors attended the museum to see the exhibition, which will be on display till the end of September, 2016.

In the frame of "Biodiversity of the Year 2016" public campaign, the Young Biologists Association NGO with support of the Rufford Foundation organizes an exhibition dedicated to the International Day for Biological Diversity. The exhibition takes place on 22 May at 10:00 - 18:00, in the English Park of Yerevan. During the event via information stands, the Plant, Animal, Fungi and Lichen species of the Year will be presented to the general public and results of the online public voting will be announced. In addition, a photo exhibition and competition will be organized and education materials on biodiversity of Armenia will be distributed for raising awareness on unique diversity of Armenia. In the frame of campaign several seminars have already been implemented in the schools of Yerevan. During the seminars, biodiversity of the country and related conservation issues have been presented.
