Dear Madam/Sir, Reference is made to decision 15/11, in which the Gender Plan of Action (GPA) was adopted, and in particular paragraph 7, in which Parties were encouraged to appoint and provide support for a national gender and biodiversity focal point for biodiversity negotiations, implementation and monitoring. Objective 2.3 of the GPA calls for integrating human rights and gender equality considerations into national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs), with indicative action 2.3.2 to appoint national gender-biodiversity focal points to support knowledge exchange, sharing experiences and best practices, peer-to peer learning, mentoring and coaching. I invite Parties to submit to the Secretariat the name and coordinates of the designated focal point(s) for Gender and Biodiversity, at the earliest convenience and preferably no later than 29 September 2023. The responsibilities of designated focal points for gender and biodiversity could include, inter alia, supporting the CBD National Focal Point on the following: a) Responding to requests for input from the Conference of the Parties and the Secretariat related to gender and biodiversity; b) Collaborate with other Gender and Biodiversity Focal Points to learn and share experience and best practices in support of the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the Gender Plan of Action; c) Facilitate the development of expertise on gender and biodiversity in the country to assist with the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the Gender Plan of Action; and d) Support knowledge exchange, sharing of experience and best practices, peer-to-peer learning, mentoring and coaching.
