Dear Madam/Sir, In line with the procedures set out in COP decision XII/25, the twenty-second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 22) will be invited to consider the relevance of the findings of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) regional assessments of biodiversity and ecosystem services for Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific and Europe and Central Asia, as well as the thematic assessment of land degradation and restoration. Further, the second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI 2) may also wish to consider the implications of these IPBES assessments when preparing a recommendation on a process for the development of a possible post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Given the above, a one-day workshop will be convened on 30 June 2018, prior to the official opening of SBSTTA 22, to consider the findings of the IPBES assessments to enable their effective use at the national and regional levels as well as to inform discussions at SBSTTA 22 and SBI 2. As part of the workshop co-chairs of each of the IPBES assessments will provide background presentations. Relevant information on scenarios and models will also be presented. Particular attention will be given to how the findings of the assessments can support the development, and ultimately the implementation, of a possible post-2020 global biodiversity framework, as well as to how the findings of the assessment can further the work on scenarios and models for the 2050 Vision for biodiversity, as set out in SBSTTA recommendation XXI/1. Participation in the workshop is open to all SBSTTA 22 registered participants.
