The Kunming Dialogue
7-9 September 2026
Hosted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Kunming Dialogue is an informal technical dialogue among Parties, indigenous peoples and local communities, women and youth representatives, academia, the private and financial sectors, experts and other stakeholders. Convened in response to Conference of the Parties (COP) Decision 16/32, it constitutes an inclusive platform for multi-stakeholder consultations related to the global review on collective progress in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which will take place at the 17th COP of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 17) in Yerevan in October 2026.
Preceded by one day of regional consultations on 6 September, the Dialogue is supported by a number of different requests. In addition to Decision 16/32, recommendation 27/1 of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, and recommendation 1/5 of the Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) provide further background to the Kunming Dialogue.
The objective of the Kunming Dialogue will be to forge a collective understanding of the scope and expected outcomes of the global review, including how the gaps uncovered by the peer-reviewed global report can be bridged in order to acceleration action for the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework.

In parallel with the in-person dialogue, the Secretariat will organize a series of online webinars on September 7th and 8th. Inputs collected from the webinars will be shared back with, and integrated into, the in-person dialogue in Kunming.
The topics of the webinars are based on the key messages from the global report on collective
progress in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and are the same
topics as those of the group discussions to be taking place during the in-person dialogue in Kunming.
The webinar topics and registration links are available in the notification.
