Notification 2004-105

Dear Madam/Sir, I wish to refer to paragraph 41 of decision V/20, paragraph 22 of decision VII/30 and Notification 2004-057 and remind Parties that voluntary reviews undertaken on national implementation of the Convention are due no later than 31 January 2005 . You will recall that the Conference of the Parties, in decision V/20, requested the Executive Secretary to provide an overview of existing mechanisms and processes for review of national implementation of environmental instruments, and invited Parties to undertake, on a voluntary basis, a review of national programmes and needs related to the implementation of the Convention and, if appropriate, to inform the Executive Secretary accordingly. The Conference of the Parties, in decision VII/30, further requested the Executive Secretary to report to the Conference of the Parties at its eighth meeting on the work required in this regard and to allow further work to be undertaken to identify ways to support the review by Parties of national implementation. The seventh meeting also recognized, in paragraph 27 of this decision, the need to develop better methods to evaluate progress in the implementation of the Convention and requested the Executive Secretary to initiate action as a follow-up to paragraph 41 of decision V/20.
