Notification 2005-117

Dear Madam/Sir, Please refer to the Secretariat’s Notification Ref. No. 2005-102 dated 16 September 2005 requesting Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations to complete the above-mentioned questionnaire. As you may recall, the Conference of the Parties to the Convention serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP) in its decision BS-I/5 agreed to undertake a comprehensive review and possible revision of the Action Plan for Building Capacities for the Effective Implementation of the Protocol at its third meeting, which is scheduled to take place from 13 to 17 March 2006 in Curitiba, Brazil. To facilitate this process, COP-MOP in its decision BS-II/3 requested the Executive Secretary to prepare a questionnaire to assist Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations to submit to the Secretariat, no later than three months prior to its third meeting, information on progress made in, and effectiveness of, the implementation of the Action Plan as well as views and suggestions on desired revisions to the Action Plan. Due to the limited number of responses received so far by the Secretariat, this Notification serves to kindly remind you to complete and return the above-mentioned questionnaire as soon as possible, but no later than 18 November 2005 in order to allow the Secretariat sufficient time in which to prepare a background paper for the third meeting of the Parties based on a broad feedback.
