Notification 2006-084

Liaison Group Meeting of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, jointly organized by the CBD and the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation 23-25 October 2006 Dublin, Republic of Ireland

Dear Madam/Sir, In decision VII/10, the Conference of Parties (COP) welcomed the establishment by the Executive Secretary of a flexible coordination mechanism for the Strategy, comprising liaison groups to be convened as necessary according to established procedures. Further, in decision VII/31 regarding the Multi-Year Programme of Work of the Conference of Parties up to 2010, the COP decided to undertake an in-depth review of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) during its ninth meeting in 2008. In preparing for the review, the Executive Secretary is convening, in collaboration with the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation, a meeting of a Liaison Group to review the status of implementation of the Strategy, provide further guidance to the in-depth review process and review proposals for a toolkit including a checklist to assist Parties in integrating the GSPC targets into their strategies, programmes and plans. The meeting will be held in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, from 23 to 25 October 2006. Due to the limited resources available for organizing this meeting, Parties especially those from the developed countries and relevant international agencies are kindly requested to seek their own support to attend this meeting and provide funds for the participation of representatives from developing countries. By this notification, I invite you to submit, at your earliest convenience but no later than 15 September 2006, the names and CVs of nominated representatives who can be called upon to attend the meeting. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Executive Secretary
