Regional Synergy Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean on the Biological Diversity of Agro-ecosystems within Dry and Sub-humid Lands, 20 – 23 November, 2006, Antigua and Barbuda, Composition of the Group

Dear Madam/Sir, In paragraph 5 of decision VII/2, and paragraph 11(e) of decision VIII/2, on the biological diversity of dry and sub-humid lands, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) requested the Executive Secretary, in collaboration with the Secretariats of the Rio Conventions and the other biodiversity related conventions, to further develop mechanisms for facilitating the synergistic implementation of these conventions. In response to this request, the Executive Secretary of the CBD, in collaboration with the secretariats of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and in consultation with other biodiversity-related conventions, is convening a regional synergy workshop on the biological diversity of agro-ecosystems within dry and sub-humid lands for Latin America and the Caribbean. The meeting will be held in Antigua and Barbuda from 20 to 23 November 2006. Further to the notification dated 22 August 2006 inviting Parties to the Convention to nominate experts in the field of biodiversity in agro-ecosystems within dry and sub-humid lands, I am pleased to convey herewith the composition of the group of selected experts (Annex). The selection of experts was based on nominations by the Parties and organizations, taking into account the relevant areas of expertise of the nominee, gender balance and geographical distribution.
