Reminder - Decision VIII/29: Liability and Redress (Article 14, paragraph 2) Examples of national/domestic legislation and case-studies.

Dear Madam/Sir, I am writing with reference to notification 2006-032, by which the Secretariat invited Parties and other Governments to submit examples of national/domestic legislation and case-studies relating to liability and redress for damage to biological diversity, including approaches to valuation and restoration. I am pleased to inform you that, in accordance with decision VIII/29, paragraph 2, the submissions received in response to the above mentioned notification are now available on the Secretariat website at: http://www.biodiv.org/liability/legislations.shtml. I wish to thank those Parties and Governments that provided information and invite others to do likewise to ensure the availability of up-to-date information on current developments in national legislation. Submissions will be welcomed at your earliest convenience and if possible prior to 15 September 2007. The information will be made available on the Secretariat website and will also provide the basis for a synthesis report of technical information relating to damage to biological diversity and approaches to valuation and restoration of damage to biological diversity, as well as information on national/domestic measures and experiences according to decision VIII/29 paragraph 3. In order to comply with the requirements relating to early distribution of documentation for the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, your cooperation and prompt response in this matter will be highly appreciated.
