Notification 2007-104

Dear Madam/Sir, As you recall, the Conference of the Parties, in its Decision VIII/15, decided to consider at its ninth meeting the process for revising and updating the Strategic Plan with a view to adopting a revised Strategic Plan at its tenth meeting. The Working Group on Review of Implementation, having undertaken an in-depth review of goals 2 and 3 of the Strategic Plan, requested the Executive Secretary in its Recommendation 2/1, to invite Parties to submit views on the revision of the Strategic Plan beyond 2010, and to prepare a report for the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. Accordingly I would like to request your country to submit views and suggestions on the revision of the Strategic Plan beyond 2010. To allow the Secretariat to compile a report on these views and suggestions in time for the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, I would appreciate receiving submissions to the Secretariat no later than 31 October 2007. In preparing your views and suggestions, you may wish to refer to the relevant document prepared by the Secretariat for the second meeting of the Working Group on Review of Implementation (UNEP/CBD/WGRI/2/INF.6,), available at http://www.cbd.int/meetings/wgri-02/documents.shtml?t=0&mtg=wgri-02&tab=1 I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize that the revision of the Strategic Plan beyond 2010 is crucial for the enhanced implementation of the Convention after 2010, building on efforts to achieve the 2010 target contained in the existing Strategic Plan.
