Notification 2008-084

Dear Madam/Sir, During its last meeting, the Conference of the Parties adopted decision IX/29 which contains the procedure for identifying and addressing new and emerging issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The decision includes the information to incorporate (section B, paragraph 11) and the criteria to use (section B, paragraph 12) in the identification of potential new and emerging issues. In the same decision, the Conference of the Parties requested the Executive Secretary to notify Parties and relevant organizations after each meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the latest date by which proposals for new and emerging issues should be submitted and to compile the submissions in the form in which they would be received. In accordance with this decision, I invite your organization to submit proposals on new and emerging issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity to the Secretariat (secretariat@cbd.int or fax +1-514-288-6588) at your earliest convenience, but no later than 30 November 2008.
