Notification 2009-079

Dear Madam/Sir, Vide notification 2008-124 dated 23 September 2008, and reminder issued 13 May 2009, Parties were requested to submit to the CBD Secretariat the name and contact details of a designated National Focal Point for the Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA- NFP) as per paragraph A 21 of decision IX/18. The previous reminder elicited over 20 more nominations, for a current total of 61 PoWPA National Focal Points, and I extend my appreciation to those Parties which have submitted these nominations. The complete list is available on the Secretariat website at https://www.cbd.int/doc/lists/nfp-cbd-powpa.pdf. Parties that have not yet nominated a PoWPA-NFP are therefore encouraged to do so by providing the name and full contact details of the nominee to the Secretariat (secretariat@cbd.int) in the briefest of delays and before 31 July 2009 so that we may achieve tangible and sustained outcomes from the upcoming series of PoWPA workshops on the review of implementation of the PoWPA.
