Notification 2009-159

Request for submissions of views and information on the proposals for new and emerging issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity

Dear Madam/Sir, Pursuant to the procedure adopted by the Conference of the Parties in decision IX/29 for identifying and addressing new and emerging issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, the Secretariat issued notifications 2008-083, 2008-084, 2008-142 and 2008-159 in July, October and December 2008 requesting Parties and relevant organizations to submit proposals for new and emerging issues including relevant information to substantiate the proposals. As of today, eight submissions were received, including from four Parties. The proposals are listed in the annex to this notification with additional information accessible from http://www.cbd.int/convention/emerging.shtml. In accordance with paragraph 9 of decision IX/29, I am inviting Parties and relevant organizations to contribute relevant information and views related to the proposals taking into account the criteria listed in paragraph 12 of the decision. Views and information may be submitted to the Secretariat (secretariat@cbd.int or fax +1-514-288-6588) at your earliest convenience, but no later than 31 December 2009. The Secretariat will then prepare a document compiling the original submissions and the information and views received for consideration by the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice at its fourteenth meeting.
