Submission of views and/or experience as invited by the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

Dear Madam/Sir, With reference to the notification issued on 8 July 2008, SCBD/BS/CG/jh/64396, I would like to draw your attention to the following items where submissions have been invited by the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Protocol (COP-MOP): Item Invitation/mandate Invitation directed to Submission areas Transit States COP-MOP 3 (decision BS-III/16) Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations Views and experience on the rights and/or obligations of Parties of transit including whether or not a Party acting only as a Party of transit takes on obligations of a Party of export under the Protocol Compliance COP-MOP 5 (decision BS-IV/1) Parties Views on how the supportive role of the Compliance Committee could be improved (paragraph 6) The Secretariat is requested to compile the views and make them available for COP-MOP at its fifth meeting, which will be held from 11 to 15 October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan. In order to facilitate timely preparations of the pre-session documents for COP-MOP 5, it would be appreciated if the submissions were made as soon as possible but no later than 30 January 2010. I also take this opportunity to thank you for the support your Government has provided to date to the work of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and look forward to your continued cooperation.
