Oceans Day at Nagoya - 23 October 2010

Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to invite you to attend Oceans Day at Nagoya being held during the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10) on 23 October 2010 at Shirotori Hall of the Nagoya Congress Centre. Oceans Day at Nagoya aims to draw high-level policy attention to the need to address the major drivers of ocean and coastal biodiversity loss, take stock of progress (or lack thereof) in the achievement of global biodiversity targets and outline the next steps in the global oceans agenda. Oceans Day will feature presentations from high-level representatives from all sectors, including governments, international agencies, non-governmental organizations, science, and industry, organized into thematic panels focused on major topics in marine and coastal biodiversity to highlight ocean-related issues and to chart the course ahead for the future. Oceans Day at Nagoya is co-organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands, among other collaborators. Please see the attached leaflet on Oceans Day at Nagoya and the provisional agenda for the meeting (Annex I). Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
