Invitation to nominate participants for the meeting of the Liaison Group for the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (St. Louis, USA, 8-9 July 2011) and to nominate national focal points for the Strategy
Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to invite you to nominate a representative for the fourth meeting of the Liaison Group for the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis, USA, 8-9 July 2011). The meeting will take place back-to-back with the International Conference: A global partnership for plant conservation – Supporting the worldwide implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (see notification 2011-044) and candidates are encouraged to consider participating in the Conference as well. The meeting will review progress made in the implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. Elements for the provisional agenda are attached to this notification. Additional documentation will be made on the meeting web page in due course (see http://www.cbd.int/doc/?meeting=GSPCLG-04). Limited financial support to facilitate the participation of eligible experts in the Liaison Group meeting is available through Botanic Gardens Conservation International. Please submit your nominations to the CBD Secretariat (secretariat@cbd.int) at your earliest convenience, but no later than 1 June 2011. In this context I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that 114 Parties to the Convention have not yet appointed national focal points for the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, as called for in paragraph 6 (b) of decision X/17 as well as previous decisions, and I would appreciate your urgent action in this matter. Other actions arising from decision X/17. 6.1 Development of the technical rationales, milestones and indicators for the updated Global Strategy for Plant Conservation 6.2 Opportunities for raising awareness about the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation 7. Other matters. 8. Adoption of the report. 9. Closure of the meeting.
