Dear Madam/Sir, In decision X/4 the Conference of the Parties requested the Executive Secretary, subject to the availability of the necessary resources, to commission a review of the process of preparation and production of the third edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook in order to further improve the process for future editions of the Global Biodiversity Outlook and to maintain comparability with earlier editions where necessary. I am pleased to inform you that, with the generous support of the Government of Japan, this review is currently underway. In this context a brief survey has been prepared on the third edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook and I hereby invite Parties and other governments, as well as relevant organizations and stakeholders to participate in the survey, which is accessible from www.cbd.int/gbo3/survey. The questionnaire should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and is open until 8 July 2011. I would also invite you to share this invitation with interested colleagues.
