Notification 2013-013

Nominations for the Sub-regional Workshop for Anglophone Africa on the Integration of Climate Change and Ecosystem-based Adaptation in National Biodiversity Planning Processes, to be held from 25 – 27 March 2013, in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania

Dear Madam/Sir, The Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in decision X/33, requested the Executive Secretary to support Parties to design and implement ecosystem-based approaches for adaptation as they relate to biodiversity. I am pleased to inform you that the CBD Secretariat, thanks to the generous financial contribution from the Government of Japan, is organizing a sub-regional workshop for Anglophone Africa to support Parties to integrate climate change and ecosystem-based adaptation in national biodiversity planning processes, from 25 – 27 March 2013, in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania. A sub-regional workshop for Francophone Africa is planned for later in the year (date and venue to be decided). This workshop is being held back-to-back with the technical workshop organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on ecosystem-based approaches for adaptation to climate change under the Nairobi Work Programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change (21 – 23 March 2013, Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania). I hereby invite your Government to nominate two representatives to participate in the Sub-regional Workshop for Anglophone Africa on the Integration of Climate Change and Ecosystem-based Adaptation in National Biodiversity Planning Processes (25 – 27 March 2013, Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania). In submitting nominations, Parties are requested to note that one participant should be directly responsible for the development, updating and/or implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). The other participant should be involved in the development of national climate change adaptation plans. Please note that the meeting will be held in English. Nominations should come in the form of an official letter signed by the focal point or a senior government official addressed to the Executive Secretary, by email at secretariat@cbd.int or by fax at: +1 514 288 6588. The nominations must contain the names and full contact details of the nominees (including e-mail address), and be accompanied by their curriculum vitae clearly indicating the relevant areas of expertise. Kindly submit nominations as soon as possible and no later than 22 February 2013. I look forward to receiving your nominations and I thank you in advance for your cooperation. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
