Notification 2013-074

FINAL REMINDER: Assessment and Review of the Effectiveness of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (Article 35): Survey to gather information corresponding to indicators in the Strategic Plan

Dear Madam/Sir, Reference is made to earlier notifications, dated 27 May 2013 (Ref.: 2013-042) and 16 July 2013 (Ref.: 2013-060), inviting Parties to provide the necessary information corresponding to the indicators in the Strategic Plan of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety by responding to survey questions that have been made available through the Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH), at: http://bch.cbd.int/managementcentre/register/2ndNatRepAddendum.shtm, as mandated by decision BS-VI/15. As of 3 September 2013, only 27 per cent of Parties to the Cartagena Protocol (44 Parties) have responded to the survey. It is further noted that the low response may not provide sufficient data to augment the baseline as established at the sixth meeting of the Parties on the implementation of the Protocol. In order to give Parties a final opportunity to contribute to this important process, I am pleased to inform you that the survey period has been extended until 15 October 2013. Kindly note that responses to the survey are to be provided through National Focal Points for the Cartagena Protocol (CPB-NFPs) and/or Biosafety Clearing-House Focal Points (BCH-NFPs). Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Executive Secretary
