Notification 2014-061

Dear Madam/Sir, In its decision BS-VI/3, the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP) adopted a new Framework and Action Plan for Capacity-Building for the Effective Implementation of the Cartagena Protocol Biosafety, to replace the earlier updated Action Plan for Building Capacities for the Effective Implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. In paragraph 6 of that same decision, the COP-MOP requested the Executive Secretary to prepare, for consideration by the regular meetings of the Parties, reports on the status of implementation of the Framework and Action Plan, on the basis of the submissions made by Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations. Accordingly, I am pleased to invite Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations to submit information on the status of implementation of the above capacity-building Framework and Action Plan, including a summary of the results of the activities undertaken, good practices and lessons learned. It would be appreciated if the information could be submitted as soon as possible but no later than 13 June 2014 to enable the Secretariat to prepare a synthesis report for the seventh meeting of the Parties to the Protocol to be held from 29 September 2014 to 3 October 2014 in Pyeongchang, Republic of Korea.
