EXTENSION OF DEADLINE: Nominations for the Global Taxonomy Initiative Training Course on Rapid Identification of Invasive Alien Species for Achieving Aichi Biodiversity Target 9

Dear Madam/Sir, I would like to refer to notification 2014-141, dated 22 December 2014, calling for nominations from Parties for the Global Taxonomy Initiative Training Course on Rapid Identification on Invasive Alien Species for Achieving Aichi Biodiversity Target 9, and which can be found at: http://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2014/ntf-2014-141-gti-en.doc. The training course has two major components: an 8-week online distance education course on DNA barcoding methodological approaches and technologies, and a 4-week hands-on training course in standard DNA barcoding protocols for selected trainees at the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario, University of Guelph, Canada. Effective 5 January 2015, all notifications calling for nomination of participants to take part in capacity-building activities supported by the Secretariat should include the attached nomination form to be completed by the relevant authorities. Furthermore, official letters of nomination have to be signed by the administrative head of the nominee’s organization. For this particular course, the official letter of nomination should be accompanied by the following additional documents: 1. Nomination form attached to this notification 2. Curriculum vitae of the applicant for training; 3. A relevant section of NBSAPs or national invasive species strategies and action plans with indication of needs of identification of priority species for the country to prevent introduction of, control or eradicate invasive alien species that may include pests or diseases; and 4. An explanation of how the training will contribute to national implementation of the invasive species strategies and action plans, and the role of the trainee in the national activities; 5. Response to the questionnaire attached to the notification 2014-141. Parties and interested organizations are kindly advised that the deadline for nominations for this course has now been extended to 15 February 2015.
