Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to announce that the Secretariat, in collaboration with and support of the “UNEP-GEF Project for Sustainable Capacity Building for Effective Participation in the Biosafety Clearing-House” (UNEP-GEF BCH III Project), will convene a “Biosafety Clearing-House Training Workshop” on 11 December 2016 during the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP) in Cancun, Mexico. The training workshop is being offered to National Focal Points and National Authorized Users for the Biosafety Clearing-House from country Parties that have endorsed or will endorse the UNEP-GEF BCH III Project prior to the meeting of COP-MOP. With generous financial support from UNEP-GEF, limited funds covering travel, daily subsistence allowance, and terminal expenses are available to National Focal Points and National Authorized Users from developing country Parties or Parties with economies in transition who are already accredited as national representatives to attend COP-MOP. Nominations must be accompanied by the registration form enclosed herewith duly completed and endorsed by the National Focal Point for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. They should be sent to the Secretariat as soon as possible but no later than 4 November 2016. Due to the limited number of spaces available for the training, placement for the workshop will be on a first come first served basis. Furthermore, please note that the working language for the workshop is English. The level of ability to speak and understand English is to be taken into account when nominating participants.
