Notification 2016-139

Survey to identify potential Bio-Bridge Initiative partners and providers of biodiversity-related technical assistance

Dear Madam/Sir, As you may recall, at the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Government of the Republic of Korea launched the Bio-Bridge Initiative (BBI) to facilitate technical and scientific cooperation under the Convention and its Protocols with a view to enhancing the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The Initiative seeks to link Parties that have technical and scientific needs with Parties and institutions that can provide the required technical assistance. The development phase of BBI has focused on preparing an Action Plan for 2017 2020 and establishing the relevant institutional structures, tools and mechanisms to support and facilitate technical and scientific cooperation. During this phase, the Secretariat has also used pilot projects to test approaches and tools for technical and scientific cooperation. Additional information on the achievements of the development phase is available at: http://www.cbd.int/biobridge. In preparation for the operational phase of BBI due to start in January 2017, the Secretariat is conducting a survey to identify potential partner organizations with relevant experience and capacity who may be interested in providing, upon request, technical assistance to developing country Parties and Parties with economies in transition. These organizations would also be invited to share relevant information and tools, and contribute to BBI outreach and networking activities to promote technical and scientific cooperation initiatives. Therefore, I am pleased to invite relevant organizations, including intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations, research and academic institutions as well as private sector entities, interested in becoming a BBI partner to complete a 10-15 minute survey accessible at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSet87hm3d90AyUe30P1xuh-9HodH6o3Ujd3XBmEosma_JHyMQ/viewform, as soon as possible, but no later than 5 December 2016. Should you have any questions concerning the survey, please do not hesitate to contact the BBI Team at biobridge@cbd.int. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
