Notification 2017-050

Extension of Deadline: Nomination of experts to participate in the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Socio-Economic Considerations and submission of information (Article 26 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety)

Dear Madam/Sir, Reference is made to notification 2017-039, issued on 1 May 2017, inviting Parties, other Governments, relevant organizations and indigenous peoples and local communities to nominate experts to the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Socio-Economic Considerations and to submit relevant information to prepare for its work. In view of the limited number of nominations received and the need to replace some experts that are no longer available to serve on the AHTEG, I am pleased to inform you that the deadline for submitting nominations of experts has been extended to 22 June 2017. Parties from all regions that have not already done so are strongly urged to submit a nomination of an expert competent in the field of socio-economic considerations through an official letter by the National Focal Point, addressed to the Executive Secretary. The letter may be sent by fax to +1 514 288 6588, or by e-mail as a scanned attachment to: secretariat@cbd.int. I would also like to remind Parties, other Governments, relevant organizations and indigenous peoples and local communities that have not yet submitted any existing guidance documents on socio-economic considerations, as well as any experience with taking socio-economic considerations into account in decision-making on living modified organisms, to do so as soon as possible through the Biosafety Clearing-House at: http://bch.cbd.int/managementcentre/edit/submission.shtml or via e-mail to: secretariat@cbd.int. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Executive Secretary
