Notification 2019-111

Dear Madam/Sir, Reference is made to paragraphs 17 and 18 of recommendation 23/1(https://www.cbd.int/doc/c/55bf/1b69/95a5163217a3f60452943ab6/sbstta-23-l-08-en.pdf), in regards to informing the scientific and technical base for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, in which the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA), urges Parties who have not yet submitted their sixth national report to do so, and requests the Executive Secretary to carry out a comprehensive analysis of information contained in the sixth national reports and to use this information when completing the fifth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook. As indicated in information document CBD/SBSTTA/23/INF/8 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/c/1cdc/308f/fdac84bd544e89c52ac1f19d/sbstta-23-inf-08-en.pdf) as of 29 November 2019, 146 Parties had submitted their sixth national report. I strongly urge the remaining 50 Parties who have not yet submitted their sixth national report to do so by 6 January 2020, to allow the Secretariat adequate time to incorporate the information contained in their sixth national reports in the fifth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook, and relevant documents to be prepared for the third meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation and the twenty-fourth meeting of SBSTTA which will be held in May 2020.
