Notification 2020-035
Logo for the International Day for Biological Diversity 2020: "Our solutions are in nature"
Dear Madam/Sir, Reference is made to Notification 2020-007 ()https://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2020/ntf-2020-007-idb-en.pdf) issued on 20 January 2020, announcing the theme of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) on 22 May 2020: “Our solutions are in nature.” I am pleased to inform you that the electronic versions of the IDB logotypes, in formats suitable for various social media platforms, are now available in the six United Nations languages at: www.cbd.int/idb/2020/logo. Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, IDB 2020 will be celebrated through its first ever virtual-only campaign. To provide a virtual platform for sharing messages of how biodiversity contributes to well-being, the Secretariat is soliciting video and written statements on the theme “Our solutions are in nature” from the past, present and future presidencies of the COP and from all regions of the world with the plan to roll these out across the different time zones, thereby emphasizing hope, solidarity and the importance of working together at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with nature. You will recall that the original campaign was being organized in the context of the “Super Year for Biodiversity”, and with the intention that this year’s IDB would be part of a broader commemoration of Biodiversity Week (18-22 May 2020). However, due to the ongoing global pandemic, the postponement of the meetings of SBSTTA and SBI, as well as the launch of the fifth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook, the Secretariat proposes to focus activities mainly on 22 May, as well as on World Bee Day, on 20 May. Further information on this year’s IDB virtual campaign and related events will be made available in due course at www.cbd.int/idb/2020 and shared on our social media platforms (@UNBiodiversity). Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
