Dear Madam/Sir, I am pleased to invite Parties and observers to participate in the webinar to launch a new set of training materials on gender and biodiversity for the South-East Asia and Pacific region, which is being jointly organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on 25 March 2021 at 10:00 a.m. (UTC+8). The webinar will be conducted in English and will be open to all registered participants. The webinar will serve to introduce the training materials and provide a forum to discuss how the dissemination and use of the materials may be maximized to support greater understanding and enhanced capacity to address biodiversity concerns in the South-East Asia and Pacific region, taking into account gender considerations. The training materials were developed through a consultative participatory process, which included a regional expert workshop on developing training materials, held in Bangkok, Thailand in late 2017. The first iteration of the draft training materials was pilot tested following a training of trainers’ workshop held in Manila, Philippines at the end of 2019. The materials are intended to support gender trainers to strengthen capacity development of Government officials and associated actors working on biodiversity policy and programming. This includes addressing i) why gender-responsive approaches are important for biodiversity policy and planning; ii) key policy considerations; and iii) how to go about integrating gender dimensions into biodiversity policy and programming in practical terms.
