Dear Madam/Sir, The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, at its fourteenth meeting, requested the Executive Secretary to facilitate and support the participation of indigenous peoples and local communities in the discussions and processes related to the post-2020 global biodiversity framework (decision 14/17 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/decisions/cop-14/cop-14-dec-17-en.pdf), para. 13). In this respect, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, in partnership with the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB) and with the generous support of the Campaign for Nature (https://www.campaignfornature.org/), is pleased to announce that the Third Global Thematic Dialogue for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework will take place virtually on 2-3 and 5-6 August 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (EDT). The First Global Thematic Dialogue (https://www.cbd.int/meetings/POST2020-WS-2019-12) for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework took place on 17-18 November 2019 and reflected on the results of the first meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework and associated regional consultations. The Second Global Thematic Dialogue (https://www.cbd.int/meetings/POST2020-WS-2020-05) took place virtually on 1 3 December 2020 and served as an opportunity for indigenous peoples and local communities to reflect on the updated zero draft of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and the monitoring framework. The Third Global Thematic Dialogue for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework provides an opportunity for indigenous peoples and local communities and Parties to exchange views on the First Draft of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, in advance of the third meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, scheduled to take place from 23 August to 3 September 2021. Indigenous peoples and local communities’ key messages and text proposals developed in this Dialogue are intended to contribute to the process of development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, towards the 2050 Vision of living in harmony with nature. The Dialogue will be conducted in English with interpretation in French, Spanish and Russian. Indigenous peoples and local communities’ organizations, as well as Parties interested to participate, should send an official nomination letter, as a scanned attachment, addressed to the CBD Executive Secretary, by e-mail to: secretariat@cbd.int, as soon as possible but no later than 23 July 2021. Indigenous peoples and local communities’ organizations will be invited to attend all four days, whereas Parties will be invited to attend the second part on 5 and 6 August. Information regarding the Third Dialogue will be available at the following webpage: https://www.cbd.int/meetings/POST2020-WS-2021-01.
