Information webinar on the outcomes of the online discussion forum on conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal biodiversity in preparation for the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, 20 June 2022

Dear Madam/Sir, The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity is convening an information webinar on Monday 20 June 2022, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. EDT, to provide an overview of the outcomes of the online discussion forum on conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal biodiversity, which was held from 8 to 15 June 2022, in preparation for the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. The online discussion forum was convened in response to recommendation 24/9 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/recommendations/sbstta-24/sbstta-24-rec-09-en.pdf) of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, in which the Subsidiary Body requested the Executive Secretary, in advance of the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, and subject to the availability of financial resources, to facilitate consultations among Parties, other Governments and relevant stakeholders, including indigenous peoples and local communities, women and youth, with a view to advancing discussions on the conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal biodiversity. The online discussion forum was intended to provide an opportunity for discussions and sharing of views on the issues addressed in the annex to recommendation 24/9 to facilitate focused deliberations on these issues at the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. Fifty-five participants from 36 countries and 19 organizations took part in the forum, which covered five thematic threads focused on various issues.
