Call for Nominations for a Meeting to develop a Target 3 Partnership, Cambridge, United Kingdom - 2-4 May 2023
Dear Madam/Sir, The purpose of this notification is to invite the nomination of experts to participate in a meeting to develop a global partnership to support the achievement of Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The Target 3 partnership will build on previous experiences from the Global Partnership on Aichi Target 11, as well as the Friends of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas partnership. The meeting is being organized by the Secretariat of the Convention of Biological Diversity, in collaboration with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s World Commission on Protected Areas, from 2 to 4 May 2023 in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The meeting is expected to: • Enhance understanding of the needs of the Parties, rightsholders and relevant stakeholders, of support provided by partners, and of gaps in technical and financial support for achievement of Target 3; • Strengthen alignment and coordination of support for implementation efforts, providing targeted technical and financial support to address gaps in efficient and effective manner; • Build technical capacity for implementation through access to knowledge and best practice of applying technical tools and guidance; • Reinforce linkages to other relevant targets, in particular Targets 1 and 2, and • Demonstrate how progress in achieving Target 3 can benefit progress towards other targets in the Framework. The meeting will bring together representatives of global, regional and sub-regional organizations that have the capacity to support achievement of the target, as well as a limited number of experts nominated from among the Parties in each region. I am pleased to invite Parties from developing country regions, as well as from indigenous peoples and local communities, to nominate an expert to participate in this meeting. Participants will be selected from among nominees based on expertise and experience relevant to the implementation of Target 3, taking into account gender balance and equitable geographical representation. Nominations should be submitted in the form of an official letter addressed to the Executive Secretary, signed by the national focal point or head of the organization, indicating the name and full contact details, as well as the curriculum vitae of the nominees, clearly indicating their areas of expertise and experience. Nominations must be received as soon as possible but no later than 17 March 2023 (scanned and attached to an e-mail addressed to secretariat@cbd.int).
