Notification 2023-022

Call for information to support the discussions of the Sustainable Ocean Initiative Workshop on Ocean-related Capacity-building Needs for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, 24-28 April 2023, virtual

Dear Madam/Sir, As per notification 2023-016, dated 24 February 2023, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity will be convening the Sustainable Ocean Initiative Workshop on ocean-related capacity-building needs for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, to be held virtually from 24 to 28 April 2023, with the financial support of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea. Parties, other Governments, indigenous peoples and local communities, and relevant organizations and initiatives are hereby invited to provide relevant information that can support the workshop deliberations. In particular, we are seeking relevant information addressing capacity gaps/needs with respect to the issues addressed in the goals, targets and indicators of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in the context of marine and coastal biodiversity. Such information may come in the form of grey literature (e.g., reports, white papers), peer-reviewed articles, project reports or other formats. The workshop aims to identify and discuss various capacity needs related to the implementation and monitoring of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in marine and coastal areas, including with respect to its goals, targets and indicators. It is expected that the workshop will produce a priority list of capacity needs that will be useful in guiding future capacity-building activities, including those under the Sustainable Ocean Initiative. In order to allow the Secretariat to prepare necessary inputs for the above-mentioned workshop in a timely manner, information should be submitted to the CBD Secretariat via an e-mail addressed to secretariat@cbd.int, as soon as possible, but no later than 29 March 2023. Thank you for your continued support for the work of the Convention. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Acting Executive Secretary
