Notification 2024-076
Online Training Course on Knowledge Management for Biodiversity, 20 August - 20 September 2024
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am pleased to inform Parties to the Convention and its Protocols that the Secretariat, with financial support from the Government of Denmark, has developed an online training course on Knowledge Management for Biodiversity, which will be conducted from 20 August to 20 September 2024.
The course will introduce participants to the fundamentals of knowledge management (KM), including the key concepts, processes, strategies, frameworks and different types of knowledge management systems. It will also cover organizational and societal aspects of KM, including knowledge organization, KM governance and culture, knowledge inclusion, knowledge diversity, and equal access to information. Participants will also learn about the KM elements of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and how they can be implemented. The course will consist of 16 one-hour modules and will be conducted in English.
The course is part of a broader Knowledge Management for Biodiversity (KM4B) Initiative, which aims to enhance the capacities of Parties and stakeholders to generate, collect, organize, share and utilise biodiversity-related data, information and knowledge to support evidence-based biodiversity planning, policy and decision-making, implementation, monitoring and reporting. The other components of the initiative include: KM4B webinars, regional workshops, KM change management programme and KM networks and communities of practice.
Participants who successfully complete the online course will be invited to attend one of the in-person regional workshops to be organised for Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean. Separate notifications regarding the regional workshops will be issued in due course.
I therefore invite Parties to nominate one representative to participate in the online course. It is recommended to consider nominees who are working, or will be assigned to work, in the area of knowledge management related to the implementation, monitoring and reporting of national biodiversity strategies and action plans or other relevant areas of work.
Nominations should be submitted in the form of an official letter addressed to the Executive Secretary, signed by the national focal point or the Head of a competent authority, accompanied by a duly completed nomination form (please see annex to this notification), describing the relevant expertise and experience of the nominee. The nominations should be sent to secretariat@cbd.int as soon as possible but no later than 15 August 2024.
The Secretariat will also invite a limited number of participants from organizations representing indigenous peoples and local communities, women and youth, or other stakeholders relevant to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to participate in the course.
Please accept, Sir, Madam, the assurances of my highest consideration.
(signed) Astrid Schomaker
Executive Secretary
