Notification 2025-006

Nomination of National Focal Points for Article 8(j) and related provisions

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing in reference to decision X/40, paragraph 7, in which the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity invites Parties to designate national focal points for Article 8(j) and related provisions. In response to this decision, the Secretariat issued notifications inviting Parties to provide the contact information of their national focal points. These national focal points are tasked with facilitating communications with organizations of indigenous peoples and local communities and to promote the effective implementation of the Programme of Work on Article 8(j) and other provisions. I wish to thank Parties that have already submitted their nominations and to invite those that have not yet done so, to submit the name and contact details of their designated national focal point(s) for Article 8(j) and related provisions to the Secretariat (secretariat@cbd.int) before 30 April 2025. The current list of national focal points for Article 8(j) and related provisions is available on the Secretariat’s website at: https://www.cbd.int/doc/lists/nfp-cbd-tk.pdf . National focal points for Article 8(j) and related provisions play an important role in the implementation of the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity, supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, as well as integrating traditional knowledge consideration into the national biodiversity strategies and action plans. I thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter, and for your continued support to the work of the Convention. Please accept, Sir, Madam, the assurances of my highest consideration. (Signed) Astrid Schomaker
