Biodiversity Day Around the World

Rwanda

With the International Biodiversity Day being celebrated so close to Earth Day and Environment Day, Rwanda decided to commemorate all these holidays in a weeklong celebration appropriately named " National Environment Week" from 31-5 June on an annual basis.

This year's celebration focused on Mountain biodiversity. Presentations were made on all the different Conventions which were ratified by Rwanda to help promote the specific roles of these organizations. The objective of this activity was to educate the public on the importance of these treaties in preserving biodiversity and promoting environmental health. Discussion groups were then formed discussing recommendations on how to implement the work of the Convention to better serve the community at large.
