SBI-3 agenda item 9: Extension of peer review of proposed annexes A, B, C and D

Dear Madam/Sir, Further to recommendation 3/15 of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI 3) on options to enhance planning, monitoring, reporting and review mechanism for the Convention and the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, and following consultations with the SBI Chair and COP Bureau, I would like to advise Parties and observers that the peer review of the proposed four annexes indicated below, related to planning, reporting, review, and stakeholder and non-state actor engagement, has been extended to 7 May 2022. You will recall that Parties were not able to consider these annexes during the resumed sessions due to time constraints. Comments already received before 25 February 2022 (further to notification 2022-001 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/notifications/2022/ntf-2022-001-webinars-en.pdf)) and those to be received by the extended deadline will be made available for consideration by the fourth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, as it continues its work to prepare the final draft of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, and by the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties. • National reporting under the Convention: Revised guidance and draft template for the seventh and eighth national reports (CBD/SBI/3/11/Add.1/Amend.1 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/c/851f/2529/89166f34b1750ec738b3d05c/sbi-03-11-add1-amend1-en.pdf)) (ANNEX C) • Draft guidance for updating or revising national biodiversity strategies and action plans in light of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework (CBD/SBI/3/11/Add.4 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/c/851f/2529/89166f34b1750ec738b3d05c/sbi-03-11-add1-amend1-en.pdf)) (ANNEX A) • Modus Operandi of the open-ended forum of SBI for country-by-country review of implementation (CBD/SBI/3/11/Add.5 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/c/851f/2529/89166f34b1750ec738b3d05c/sbi-03-11-add1-amend1-en.pdf)) (ANNEX D) • Commitments from actors other than national governments in the context of an enhanced planning, monitoring, review and reporting mechanism (CBD/SBI/3/11/Add.6 (https://www.cbd.int/doc/c/8ddc/798e/f7c78b568b599e56217a207a/sbi-03-11-add6-en.pdf)) (ANNEX B) Information and materials related to the webinar, as well as comments received on the annexes to date, are available at: https://www.cbd.int/article/pre-geneva-2022-webinars/webinar-jan-13. Additionally, a workshop is planned prior to the fourth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. The workshop, to be held on 17-18 June 2022, will provide an additional opportunity for Parties to discuss the annexes, their relationship with, as well as the draft options to enhance planning, monitoring, reporting and review mechanism as set out in SBI recommendation 3/15.
