A Quick Guide to Celebrating Biodiversity Day

This year the theme of International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) highlights the linkages between the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Goals and Targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) as two universal agendas that must be pursued in tandem in the spirit of the recently adopted Pact for the future.

Everyone has a story to tell on biodiversity and on the IDB 2025 theme. Let the world hear it. Here are easy steps everyone can take to join the global celebration of biodiversity—the foundation of life on Earth:   

Visit the website and use the IDB 2025 toolkit  

The IDB website information on the theme, including the language versions of the theme and an accompanying narrative. Visitors will also find a toolkit comprising the following elements: 

• An Interactive tool developed by the United Nations Environment Programme, which offers insights into the linkages between the 23 targets of the KMGBF and the 17 SDGs. 
• The full logo package (in the six official languages of the United Nations) and accompanying usage guidelines . 
• A widget allowing users to produce customized visuals with the IDB 2025 logo.
• A dedicated Trello Board offering a suite of digital assets (including visuals and video material) everyone can use to craft their own story about biodiversity and the theme of IDB 2025. 

Take part in the global IDB digital campaign

The main hashtag for the campaign is #BiodiversityDay. Language versions of that hashtag and additional tips are provided on the IDB website, including the Trello Board offering a collection of digital assets. This year the CBD Instagram account will see a succession of photographers sharing their work on biodiversity as a contribution to the IDB campaign. 

You can take part by amplifying content from the CBD social media accounts, using the assets provided to craft posts of your own, or by blending both in your timeline. 

If you are considering a video message on IDB 2025, the best quality videos are filmed horizontally in 4K at 24fps or at least 1920x1080 Full HD at 24fps. 

Organize or attend a local event 

By organizing or attending local IDB 2025 celebrations, including in-person events, workshops or webinars, you can play your part in explaining, discussing or advocating for accelerated action to achieve the SDGs and the KMGBF targets by 2030.
