Celebrations of the anniversary of the Krkonose National Park
The 2023 year is the anniversary of the establishment of the first National Park on the Czech Republic territory. The Giant Mountains / Krkonose National Park was declared on the 17th May 1963. The Park was established with the goal to maintain and improve its unique environment, especially the conservation or renewal of self-controlling functions of natural systems, strict protection of wild animals and plants and preservation of the typical landscape. The territory offers possibility for scientific and educational activities and development of sustainable tourism and recreation that does not impair the environment.

Special presentation on biological diversity
On May 23 a special presentation remembers importance of biological diversity, organized within Czech Society for Environmental Care / Czech Union of Scientific Technical Societies. The aim of the IDB was described and biodiversity demonstrated on example of vegetation richness of the Canary Islands (recently visited by the author).

Excursion to the Pruhonice Park and Gardens
On May 25 a special excursion was organized to the Pruhonice Park and Gardens. Pruhonice Park figures on the UNESCO List of Cultural Heritage (together with Historical Centre of Prague), described as follows: The inscribed site is a serial property comprising the Historic Centre of Prague situated on the territory of the self-governing administrative unit of the City of Prague, and of the Průhonice Park, located southeast of the city on the territory of the Central Bohemia. The Park is distinguished through the valuable collection of woody plants – native as well as introduced ones, serving as an important gene pool and source for further selection. Adjacent gardens are expositions of specialized collections of genus Rosa, Iris, Paeonia, Rhododendron, Hemerocallis and fruit trees. Curators of the mentioned collections served as guides for group of specialists in the environment and dendrology.
