Highlights from the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 17) Presidency

H.E. Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia

Armenia currently is the presidency of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity.

H.E. Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, is the presidency of COP 17 to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Appointed Minister of Environment in July 2025, he previously served as Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister, Governor of Armavir Province and was elected twice as a Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

As COP 17 President, Minister Matevosyan has undertaken an exceptionally active programme of high-level international engagement, reflecting Armenia's strong commitment to biodiversity and an unprecedented level of ministerial outreach in support of the Convention. Through engagement with world leaders, ministers, and international partners, he has helped elevate biodiversity on the global political agenda, strengthen momentum towards COP 17, and advance Armenia's vision for an inclusive, ambitious, and action-oriented Conference.
