Press Conferences, Press Briefings and Press Releases

 

a) General information


The press conference room is room 10, on the second floor of the CICG.  Due to the small size of the room, the Secretariat reserves the right to limit access to one representative per accredited media organization.

The Secretariat will hold an opening press conference on Monday 14 March 2022 at 9am CET, in Room 10, on the second floor.  A closing press conference will be held on 29 March 2022, at 19:30 CET, also in Room 10 on the second floor.

Daily press briefings by the Secretariat will be held in the mornings at 9:15am on 15-19 March and 21-29 March. All these briefings will be live-streamed on YouTube

Press Conferences by Parties, Stakeholders and other Organizations: During the meeting, a number of Press Conferences, Media availabilities and media scrum will be held by Parties and Organizations participating in the meeting.  The schedule of these will be published on this page.  Media advisories will be sent to accredited meetings.  The Secretariat will facilitate these briefings, but does not assume responsibility for any of the content.

Requests for onsite interviews with the Secretariat, including the Executive Secretary, programme officers, and the information Officer should be sent to: david.ainsworth@un.org, with cc to johan.hedlund@un.org and franca.damico@un.org . The Secretariat will do its best to accommodate the time but availability is subject to the commitments of the staff.   Requests for remote interviews are also possible.  Please provide the following information:

  • Name of interviewer and organization
  • List of questions
  • Proposed time

Requests for interviews with Parties and other stakeholders need to be directed to the delegations and not to the Secretariat.
 

Media Accreditation 


On-site Media accreditation


Media accreditation for the Geneva meetings is now open. Please note that, considering other participants and the physical safety and security considerations of the venue which can only allow up to a total of 1000 delegates on-site, regrettably, each media organization can have no more than two registered delegates.


This also means that only a limited number of media can be onsite on a daily basis. Accordingly, should the number of accredited media exceed allowed spaces, there will be a pool system set up to ensure media access to the proceedings.


Please note that media representatives who are not able to attend in person will still be able to view the press conferences on webcast.


Media traveling to Switzerland for the meetings are strongly advised to consult the Federal Office of Public Health website on health-related measures and updates, prior to travel. To enter into Switzerland and for access to the venue, media will be required to be vaccinated (with one of the vaccines approved by the World Health Organization) or provide evidence of immunity following recovery from COVID-19. For further information about visa requirements, as well as health requirements and other logistical details, an updated version of the Information Note for Participants is being prepared by the Secretariat and will be made available on the meetings webpage shortly.
 

On-Line Media Accreditation
 

To facilitate the media accreditation process, you will need to complete an online media accreditation form. Prior to completing the form, and to receive media accreditation, you will need to create a CBD account . Once completed, an email will be sent to you to activate the account. Sign in If you already have a CBD account.

Media participation at meetings of the CBD is subject to accreditation by the CBD Secretariat. Media accreditation is strictly reserved for members of the press – print, photo, radio, TV, film, news agencies and online media – who represent bona fide media organizations. Accreditation will be granted upon presentation of valid press credentials including:
 

  • Completed online accreditation form;
     
  • Letter of assignment on official letterhead of a media organization signed by the Publisher/Assignment Editor, Editor-in-chief or Bureau Chief, specifying the name and functional title of the journalist. Unsigned letters or e-mails will not be accepted;
     
  • Photocopy of a valid press card/work pass;
     
  • Photocopy of passport/national ID card.
     

Information resources

  • Social media: The Secretariat will provide a range of information resources in the lead up to and during the meetings. These resources will include B-roll footage and video products, which will be available on our Vimeo account, as well as photos collected on our Flickr account. Additionally, a Trello board has been created to compile social media assets and other communications products related to the meetings.
