River Health Awareness day, 22 May 2013
In support of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2013, and in recognition of the theme “Water and Biodiversity”, two major South African NGO’s: the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) and the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) organized a River Health Awareness day on 22 May for groups of Eco-Schools in the Magaliesberg area, Gauteng Province, South Africa. We demonstrated the MiniSASS (citizen science aquatic insect sampling method) along a beautiful stretch of river and discussed the importance of aquatic biodiversity and protecting our water resources with local school groups in the area.
