Island nations are often globally renowned for their unique and diverse cultural and natural heritages. Despite these rich assets, island ecosystems are “among the most threatened in the world”, due to their small size, isolation and fragility. Eighty per cent of known species extinctions have occurred on islands. They are also on the frontline of global changes.
