Examples of the use of cost and benefit analysis to support IAS management. [#1268]
Examples of the use of cost and benefit analysis to support IAS management.

What methods and approaches have been used in the context of IAS management. It would be useful to provide examples of current applications and the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.  Are there existing standards or best-practice guidelines from other areas of relevance to this topic?

RE: Examples of the use of cost and benefit analysis to support IAS management. [#1321]
Dear all,

The experience we have in Brazil is estimative of the costs for the implementation of National IAS Control Plans. We have estimated the costs for feral pigs, golden mussel (Limnoperna fortunei) and sun coral (Tubastraea coccinea and T. tagusensis) control plans. The plans were prepared between 2016 and 2018.
The cost was estimated for each action of the plan during the workshop held to the preparation of the plan. The workshop was attended by a diversity of stakeholders, including scientists, farmers, hunters, policy officers, land managers, etc.
For example, the action “Estimate the feral pigs abundance in priority protected areas” was estimated to cost R$ 1,000,000.00 or US$ 254,058.591 for the five years of the plan.
The estimative did not follow a specific method and can vary significantly. So, the real cost of the plans may be different from the estimative.

Cheers,
Tatiani
