Report of the Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Meeting on the Clearing-House Mechanism

I am pleased to inform you that the Executive Secretary, in collaboration with the Government of Brazil, is in the process of organizing a clearing-house mechanism regional meeting for the Latin American and Caribbean region, with the generous support of the Government of Belgium, to provide countries of the region with the opportunity to identify activities in support of the 2010 target, technology transfer and other activities related to the Convention’s programme areas and cross-cutting issues. This regional meeting will be held on 9 to 11 March 2005 in Brasilia, Brazil subject to confirmation by the Government.

Further to our Notification SCBD/I&O/CHM/MS/46963 dated 11 February 2005, regarding the Latin America and the Caribbean regional meeting on the clearing-house mechanism, to be held in Brasilia, from 9 to 11 March 2005, I am pleased to inform you that the Provisional Agenda, the Annotated Provisional Agenda and the Information for Participants for the above-mentioned meeting are now available on the Secretariat’s web site at: <a href='http://www.biodiv.org'>www.biodiv.org</a>. The Spanish language version of the above mentioned documents will be forthcoming.

I am writing in connection with the Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Meeting on the Clearing-House Mechanism which was held in Brasilia, Brazil, from 9 to 11 March 2005. Participants to the meeting recommended to the Executive Secretary to develop a checklist of criteria to assist in the evaluation of national Clearing-House Mechanisms and that the results of the checklist be presented as an information document at the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to be held in Curitiba, Brazil from 20 to 31 March 2006.
