Midori Prize Recipients 2026
The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the AEON Environmental Foundation are pleased to announce the recipients of the MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity 2026: Lisa Paguntalan-Marte (Philippines) and Alexandra Zimmermann (Germany).
Established in 2010 to commemorate CBD COP 10, the MIDORI prize recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and to the realisation of a more sustainable society. Since its inception, the Prize has honoured leaders in biodiversity from around the world who’s work has had a tangible effect on on the field of biodiversity.
For more than 25 years, Lisa Paguntalan-Marte has been at the forefront of biodiversity conservation in the Philippines. Her work has contributed to the rediscovery of species once thought to be extinct, the conservation of threatened wildlife, and the implementation of national biodiversity strategies on a local level.
Alexandra Zimmermann is internationally recognised for her leadership in advancing approaches to human-wildlife coexistence. For more than two decades, she has helped shape research, practice and policy in this field, establishing international networks and guidance that have elevated coexistence as a key biodiversity issue.
Their work demonstrates the leadership, dedication and collaboration needed to advance the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and build a world living in harmony with nature.
The award ceremony and laureates' forum will take place in Tokyo, Japan on the 27th of August 2026.
