Messages on the occasion of Biodiversity Day 2022
We should preserve every scrap of biodiversity as priceless while we learn to use it and come to understand what it means to humanity.

Without biodiversity, there is no future. It's time we stop focusing on being exclusive and instead began focusing on being inclusive in our approach and actions for a sustainable future.
Dr N Manika, FloraFauna Science Foundation, Lucknow, India
Limited identity is a curse! Our identity should expand beyond something like Me, My family, My community, My religion, etc. to a Limitless identity... and let's consider as much creations of God when we make a judgement. This act will make a better world. It's not about redefining our priorities, but all about expanding our field of inclusiveness.

Today, VBIO.eco joins the rest of the world in celebrating Biodiversity Day, our day and of everyone who shares this home with us. The search for a sustainable shared future is a vision that shows respect for all forms of life. It is to protect each of the different levels of biodiversity and ensure the survival of all. May the future we wish to build belong to everyone and be for everyone.
Mariana Giozza, Porto Alegre, Brazil
Our common home, the Earth, is the only known planet blessed with a cluster of diverse ecosystems in the entire universe. Life in this wonderful home has been sustained only because of nature's ecosystem services. While these ecosystems have been thriving for millions of years, they are under threat.
All species are interconnected and at present about one million species of plants and animals are facing the threat of extinction. About 1% of species are lost each year. Pope Francis, through his Laudato Si’ Encyclical, states that “We have no such right.”
The Laudato Si’ Movement recognizes that all things are interconnected. We all have a role to play in building a shared future for all life. On this year’s International Day of Biological Diversity we invite everyone to call for no more biodiversity collapse and take action, however small or big, to protect our common home.
We implore our leaders to deliver an ambitious post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework that acknowledges the urgent need to finance biodiversity conservation especially for the Global South. We need a nature positive future for all.
Tomas Insua, Executive Director, Laudato Si Movement, Washington

Yes, every year 22 May is day reserved for understanding and celebrating Biodiversity which is the most Beautiful and Uniquely designed Gift on our Planet. But, we must not confine it to a single day. Biodiversity is an integral part of our daily livelihood and daily lifestyles. You can begin with your Home Kitchen Store, where you will find more than 100 types of biodiversity being used for your daily food items. It gives us choices & reasons of making our lives more and more interesting, diverse and full of joyful moments. Everyone has a role to play with regard to biodiversity.

With careful thought and planning, it is possible for both wildlife and humans to coexist. In many places, locals are protecting wildlife and encouraging peaceful new solutions. Our greatest challenge – connecting together – is also our greatest resource as through these connections we can build a bridge between experts and communities seeking nonviolent solutions to these conflicts.

PERFECT BALANCE
Nature stands in a perfect balance… Every living thing is fed as much as it needs to eat and continues its life with waste at a level that the soil or air can tolerate. However, the damage done by man is far beyond the tolerance of nature. In my paintings, I try to explain the chaos created by the human desire to dominate every field from past to present. Our roots are in nature, as the natural structure of nature is destroyed, I try to draw attention to the natural texture and harmony in nature by creating textures. Video 1 | Video 2

Nature photography has developed into a real hobby for me in these times of a global pandemic. Nature gives us hope, space, a home, and a sense of being a part of something bigger than ourselves. While going for walks in nature, I am reminded of the importance of biodiversity. When there is life in the undergrowth, many species thrive. There is much to point my lens at in wonder. Where there are only tightly-packed pine trees, there is a dry forest floor without life and much less to get lost in with my camera.
