IDB 2023 in The Netherlands
Biodiversiteitsfestival / Biodiversity Festival
In English: The Netherlands is unfortunately one of the world’s leaders in biodiversity loss. Researchers across Utrecht University are improving the science base for effective protection and recovery of biodiversity. Insight into effective measures is vital: greater biodiversity makes ecosystems more stable and can help mitigate the consequences of climate change. On International Biodiversity Day we organize a Biodiversity science and impact Festival to connect stakeholders, active on the theme of biodiversity, and UU scientists from different disciplines. This way, we can find cooperation and strengthen each other on our way bending the curve of biodiversity loss. ICA Biodiversity Challenge 2023 (ICA BioBlitz 2023)
With this ICA Biodiversity Challenge 2023 we put forward an activity for all ICA members that is fun, brings our staff and students together, and sparks engagement with biodiversity: “We will engage to protect and enhance the biodiversity of our own life science university grounds, campuses and other estates, for them to become enlightening examples and teaching tools for biodiversity-based development.” 17 ICA universities have enthusiastically agreed to participate in this Challenge between 22 May (International Day on Biodiversity) and 30 June. For these six weeks, staff and students will be counting species on their university grounds. On the 30th June, we will share the results and highlights and discuss our experiences during an interactive (online) closing event. Questions about this Challenge? Get in touch with biodiversity@wur.nl!
Wageningen University & Research, in close cooperation with the ICA Secretariat, takes up the organisation of the ICA Biodiversity Challenge 2023.
