4th edition of the Global Biodiversity Festival

A live, virtual event sharing the weird & the wonderful, the challenges life faces and good news conservation stories from around the world!

Join us as we take a global audience on a virtual journey to the frontlines of the race to save our planet's biodiversity. Through the stories and media of scientists, explorers, conservationists, filmmakers, photographers, and policymakers, we'll shine a spot spotlight on biodiversity through a fast paced, global exploration. We'll celebrate the weird and the wonderful, uncover the challenges life faces, and share the good news conservation stories that inspire and give us hope for a future with wild places and filled with wildlife.

Over the last 3 years, the Global Biodiversity Festival has broadcast 141 hours of live content, with 310 speakers, representing 80 countries. We've been live in the canopy or the Costa Rican rainforest, met the last northern white rhinos in Kenya, watched kiwis undergo health checks, explored Antarctica, and so much more.

Join us for year 4 of the Global Biodiversity Festival and meet a new group of speakers as we take a global snapshot of biodiversity through a live visit to a new country every 30 minutes as we prepare to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity.

“From Agreement to Action: Ways forward for gender equality and women’s rights in building back biodiversity”

A one-day hybrid (in-person and virtual) style event celebrating International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) on 22 May. The theme for this Day is “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity, which promotes action in support of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). The event especially highlighted stories from Women4Biodiversity’s partner restoration sites from Asia, Africa and Latin America. These sites are working to build resilience and weave gender-responsive approaches to biodiversity governance.

The topics that were addressed are as per the below,

  • Global to local: Perspectives from the actors on the ground.
  • How can you ensure effective implementation of the Kunming Montreal GBF from Agreement to Action?

From Agreement to Action: the Central Role of Water to Build Back Biodiversity

In celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2023, this event will illustrate the critical interlinkages between freshwater and biodiversity and showcase the outcomes of the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 15) and UN 2023 Water Conference. The Water Action Agenda commitments on biodiversity made by different stakeholders at the UN 2023 Water Conference will be discussed at the event.

Through the game, players can learn about reviving different ecosystems – forests, oceans, grasslands & cities – and join the global #GenerationRestoration movement.
