The Pacific Regional Guidelines aim to help countries develop domestic-level compliance mechanisms. The capacity building and awareness-raising work of the ABS Regional project in the Pacific has resulted in ten countries becoming Parties to the Nagoya Protocol.

The lessons learned over 10 years by SPREP and the ABS Initiative highlight significant implementation gaps in the Nagoya Protocol. There are incomplete legal and policy frameworks on ABS, limited or lack of monitoring and compliance mechanisms and limited reporting to the ABSCH.

The workshop "ABS for Utilization of DSI & Possible Consequences for Open Access / Open Science" was organized by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) at the International Academy for Nature Conservation on the Isle of Vilm. Scientific support was provided by the Leibniz Institute DSMZ, German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures and the Leibniz Institute IPK, Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research.

We talk to community representatives, business leaders, decision-makers, researchers, and civil society advocates to shed some light on the current biodiversity crisis and determine pathways to solve it.

The goal of this Project was to foster long-term cooperation between the EWT (South Africa), Raptors Botswana (Botswana), BirdLife Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe), and BirdLife South Africa (South Africa) on catalyzing and coordinating the formation of a broad network of landowners and stakeholders that commit to managing their properties in a vulture-safe manner, with a view to ultimately establishing the first transboundary vulture safe zone (VSZ) within important vulture sites of southern Africa. This goal was realized, in part, through catalytic funding support from the SCBD’s Bio-Bridge Initiative.

L’étude a pour objectif d'améliorer le niveau de compréhension des groupes cibles sur les enjeux du Protocole pour sa mise en œuvre effective au Burundi. Le contenu de cette étude est le résultat des animations auprès des groupes cibles d’identification de leur différents niveaux de compréhension sur les enjeux du Protocole de Nagoya et les indicateurs formulés serviront de référence pour l’évaluation des impacts de sensibilisation en 2018.
